AZTEC – The Teenek 100 USA mountain bike race is coming to Aztec on Saturday, Nov 11.

Starting at the Aztec Motocross Track and encompassing some of the area's best mountain bike trails, racers can choose between a 60-mile Expert (or 100-kilometer and thus the name Teenek 100) or 30-mile Sport loop.

Registration is open at teenekracing.com/usa. This event is being organized by San Lunes Tours and Events.

Race founder Bebeto Mendiola has more than 15 years of experience running international mountain bike races with his brother and adventure racer, Jorge Mendiola. Mendiola, his wife, Maya Pierce, and their family now live in Aztec and are excited to be expanding their races into the Four Corners.

“I love organizing races because I love seeing the athletes challenging themselves,” Mendiola said. “I also like developing new courses for our races. This uses the terrain and trails differently than riders are used to and allows them to explore the beautiful places where we live and visit in new ways.”

The Téenek Bike Challenge is a mountain biking competition for all levels. From the most experienced to those who are just starting out in distance competitions.

“Teenek events never disappoint,” said Molly Housman, who’s participated in prior events. “They are full of adventure, always a challenge, and the Teenek family vibe is great. I am excited to get back to Aztec with its great feel and the terrain.”

In addition to the race, Teenek also features an adventure school for kids aged seven through 14 years old. The school is aimed at young people from 7 to 14 years old. The program includes outdoor activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, mountain hiking, map and compass orientation.

Winners in the Téenek 100 USA Expert and Sport categories will receive registration for its sister race, the Teenek 100 Mexico. This race will take place in Huasca, Hidalgo, Mexico.

The Teenek 100 USA race will leave and finish at the Aztec Motocross grounds, 1771 Navajo Dam Rd. All registrations before Oct. 31 include T-shirt and socks. Packet pick-up will be at Barefoot Bikes located at 102 N. Main Ave. in Aztec.
