New Mexico governor appoints racial justice policy group

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is holding a virtual roundtable with state black leaders Thursday after a week of anti-racism protests calling for police reform around the country.

The purpose was to introduce some of the panelists on the governor’s Council for Racial Justice, a policy panel she says will set the agenda for anti-racism and law enforcement reform during next year’s legislative session.

The live video conference was streamed online just hours after a funeral service for George Floyd, the Minneapolis man whose death in police custody sparked protests about longstanding grievances over the lack of police accountability in departments nationwide.
