Cornerstone Medical Center, a hybrid offering primary and urgent care services, opened Dec. 1 at 1004 E. Main St., providing a new option for local residents.

The clinic is owned by family nurse practitioner Hilorie Erautt, with the help of business partner Brian Bearie from her hometown of Yucaipa, California. Bearie has 30 years of experience in emergency medicine, urgent care and occupational medicine.

Erautt has lived in Montezuma County for 15 years, raising her four daughters with her husband, Eddie Erautt.

Before launching Cornerstone Medical Center, Erautt worked at practices affiliated with Southwest Memorial Hospital. She became inspired to open her own clinic after identifying ways she wanted to do things differently. She began planning in December 2023.

“Once I became a nurse practitioner and started seeing patients and getting into it, I really saw the different ways of how I would do things and how I wanted to go out on my own,” Erautt said. “It’s been God teaching me patience every day.”

A conversation with Bearie for business advice soon turned into a full partnership. After purchasing the building in November 2024, Erautt, with the help of her husband and daughters, did a complete renovation.

“It’s been great family building, but it’s been really good community wise, that everyone’s just been really supportive and happy to see another place here in town,” Erautt said. “Going into business with people from my hometown, and then this is now my kids’s hometown, so it’s really cool.”

The clinic's staff includes two part-time receptionists and one full-time licensed practical nurse. Erautt is actively searching for a radiology technologist to support the on-site X-ray machine.

“We are patient-centered, community-centered,” Erautt said. “Our main goal here is to serve this community and we are excited to be open and help anybody and everybody. We’re here to listen. We’re here to help. That’s my biggest goal, because I feel like a lot of people are always worried about their provider leaving, or someone really listening to them, to take the time, and that is our goal.”

Services span annual wellness exams, chronic disease management, wound care and routine checkups to urgent interventions such as fracture treatment, laceration repairs and electrocardiograms.

“It’s honestly just been really good and refreshing,” Erautt said about opening. “It’s just one of those things, like when you work for yourself and honestly feeling like I’m wallowing in grace, like, ‘OK, God brought me to this. He’s going to see me through it.’ Just giving it all to him, really.”
