Two positions are open; board members paid $40 per meeting

Montezuma County seeks to fill two vacancies on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Board members Mike Rosso and Stan Pierce have resigned after serving several three-year terms, said Assistant Planner Jane Duncan.

Applications are being sought for the two open positions. Candidates will go through an interview process, and successful applicants will be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. Three-year terms begin in January. Board members are paid $40 per meeting.

Board members include Zach Fahrion, Haley Leonard Saunders, John Hernandez and Eddie Mac Taylor.

Duties include a minimum of one monthly meeting and occasional work sessions wherein the board evaluates proposed land use proposals, which are analyzed for compliance with the land use code.

The board holds public hearings on land development proposals and considers changes and mitigation to reduce potential impacts and reach land use code compliance.

The Planning and Zoning Board makes recommendations on land use applications to the Board of County Commissioners, which makes the final decisions on approvals, denials, or the need for additional evaluation.

Interested persons must reside in Montezuma County. An application is available on the department website or from the planning office, 109 W. Main St., Room 270, Administrative Offices, Cortez, CO. 81321.

An application and letter of interest outlining experience and interests, are required and should be submitted to the Planning Office or by email to planning@co.montezuma.co.us.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. For details, email planning@co.montezuma.co.us or call (970) 565-2801.
