Montezuma County Commissioner Jim Candelaria was honored Tuesday with the Distinguished Service Award, presented by Colorado Counties Inc.
CCI, a membership group that supports local Colorado governments, presented the award to Candelaria during the association’s Winter Conference Dec. 1-3 in Jefferson County.
“Commissioner Candelaria was chosen for this honor due to his long tenure in county government and his outstanding record of public service,” reads an announcement of the award shared by Montezuma County.
“Over the years, he has served on numerous CCI committees and task forces, consistently providing thoughtful leadership and a steady, collaborative voice on issues affecting counties statewide.”
Candelaria serves as vice chairman of the Public Lands Steering Committee for CCI. He began serving on the Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners after being elected in 2018 and was reelected elected in 2018. His two-term limit will end in November 2026.
“In announcing the award, CCI emphasized that the Distinguished Service Award is reserved for individuals who unselfishly devote their time and energy to the greater good – whether in their own county, their region, or the entire state,” reads the announcement.
“Montezuma County administration and staff extend their heartfelt congratulations to Commissioner Candelaria for receiving this well-deserved award.”
Responding to CCI’s recognition, Candelaria said he was “humbled and surprised” to receive the award.
