Montezuma County 4-H celebrated the 2025–26 season with about 175 people at its annual Achievement Night on Oct. 11, recognizing outstanding members, leaders and community supporters who contributed to the program.

At the event, 4-H members, junior leaders and adult volunteers were highlighted for their dedication to 4-H values.

Outstanding Junior Members for 2025 were Kaydence Spruell and Bently Montgomery. Jasper Gilliland and Dannika Goodall were named top senior members. Lexi Simmons received the junior leader award, and Nikole Young was honored as the top adult leader.

The Friends of 4-H award, which recognizes community members for significant impact, was presented to Target Rental and Cheryl Young.

Two retiring volunteers were also recognized for their longstanding commitment to Montezuma County 4-H: Barbara Zeutzius, a volunteer for 35 years, and Stacey Kane, who served for 20 years.

The ceremony also included installation of 2025–26 county council officers. The new officers are Kaydence Samora, president; Emma Smith, vice president; Brynley Nichols, secretary; Zane Herrmann, treasurer; Lexi Simmons, reporter; and Kaytin Lindsay, parliamentarian.

The evening concluded with closing remarks from Samora, photos and cupcakes.

“As we wrap up this amazing 4-H Achievement Night, I want to take a moment to congratulate every one of our award winners and participants,” Samora said. “Tonight isn’t just about the ribbons or trophies, it’s about celebrating the hard work, late nights and dedication that brought you here. Each of you represents what it truly means to be part of 4-H: determined, hardworking and full of heart.”

Norah West, Montezuma CSU Extension administrative assistant, thanked those involved in local 4-H in an email to The Journal.

“We want to especially thank our members, volunteers and community partners for making this a wonderful year,” West said.
