If the past few seasons have been any indicator, the future of Four Corners football appears to be in good hands.

Following in the footsteps of the area high school football successes this past fall, a trio of Southwest Colorado fifth graders enjoyed playing the game under the bright lights. Earning spots on the Colorado Youth Football Invitational rosters, Braxton Thornbrugh, Beren Howell, and Parker Spitzer joined an elite selection of 48 players from across the state to participate in the three-day event at the Denver Broncos training facility.

Playing under the banners of Broncos legends Terrell Davis, Shannon Sharpe and John Lynch, the invitational provided a taste of the professional experience, as Thornbrugh, Howell and Spitzer participated in a combine day, to go along with two-a-day practices and an all-star game on the turf inside the state-of-the-art facility.

The trio play on the Panthers youth, youths squad, and earned their stripes to be named to the all-star team after joining a pool of 120 entrants up for consideration for the prestigious honor.

In the culminating event of the weekend, Thornbrugh, Howell and Spitzer were sent onto different squads, as they went head-to-head in the all-star game on Sunday, with Thornbrugh’s Blue Team coming out on top.
