Montezuma-Cortez School District will learn remotely Monday in case staff receiving their second dose of the coronavirus vaccine over the weekend experience any side effects.

According to a letter from Superintendent Lori Haukeness, more than 200 Montezuma educators and staff will receive their second dose of the vaccine.

Teachers will provide remote-learning assignments to all students Friday.

In-person learning will resume Tuesday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, side effects from the second dose are likely to be more intense than those from the first.

“These side effects are normal signs that your body is building protection and should go away within a few days,” according to the agency’s website.

The district held its first clinic for staff in February.

Mancos and Dolores school districts have already provided second doses to teachers and staff that opted for them.
