Montezuma-Cortez school district requests board nominations for election

The Montezuma-Cortez school district is seeking nominations for the upcoming election. Four seats are open for reelection, and another two are currently vacant.
Seats are open for election in Districts B, D, E and F. Districts A and C are vacant

The Montezuma-Cortez RE-1 school district is seeking candidates for four school board positions for the regular biennial election on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Director seats for Districts B, D, E and F will be open, each with a four-year term.

District F is held by board President Sheri Noyes, B by Paul Beckler, D by Leland Collins and E by Ed Rice. Seats A and C are vacant.

The only board member who will remain after the election, if none of the current members rerun and are reelected, will be Mike Lynch for District G.

Candidates must be registered electors of the school district for at least one year (two consecutive months) prior to the election and be residents of the director district they would represent.

Those who have been convicted of a sexual offense against a child are ineligible to run.

Candidates must submit a written notice of intent and a nomination petition that has been signed by at least 50 eligible electors who are registered to vote in the election. Petitions can be picked up at the district’s administration office, 400. N. Elm St., from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, excluding the office’s lunch break from noon to 1 p.m.

Completed petitions must be finished and submitted to the district’s designated election official, Debra Ramsey, by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29.
