Montezuma Cortez Narcotics Team host DEA Drug Take Back event Saturday

The Drug Take Back event, hosted at Walgreens at 1671 E. Main St., is anonymous, and law enforcement will not be handling or doing inventory on the medication turned in this Saturday.
Residents can anonymously and safely dispose of expired medications

The Montezuma-Cortez Narcotics Team will host a Drug Enforcement Administration Drug Take Back event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Walgreens, 1671 E. Main St. The event promotes community safety by offering a convenient, anonymous way to prevent drug misuse and dispose of unused or expired medications.

According to the event’s Facebook page, participants are encouraged to bring solid dosage pharmaceuticals and liquid medications. Liquid medications, such as cough syrup, must remain sealed in their original containers. To ensure privacy, individuals should remove any identifying information from prescription labels before disposal. Medications can be surrendered in their original containers or placed directly into a disposal bin.

The program is anonymous, requiring no identification or questions. Law enforcement personnel will not handle, count, inventory or record any medications. Participants must retain possession of their medications during the surrender process.

The event does not accept intravenous solutions, injectables, syringes, illicit substances (including marijuana or methamphetamine), batteries, vape pens with nonremovable batteries, or inhalers.
