San Juan Basin Public Health announced Friday that the monoclonal antibody treatment mobile unit – which was originally set to be available only two weeks in Durango – will extend its service through Dec. 23.

Monoclonal antibody treatments have been shown to be effective at preventing hospitalizations for people who test positive for COVID-19 and are considered at high risk for severe illness.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is administering the treatments.

The treatments are available to those who are 12 or older, at high risk for severe illness and have tested positive for COVID-19 with symptoms that began within 10 days of seeking treatment. Those who are hospitalized or on oxygen as a result of COVID-19 are not eligible.

The treatment is designed to boost the immune response. It is administered intravenously and takes about an hour.

The treatment is free, no referral is required and it is available to people regardless of vaccination status.

The mobile unit is at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, at 2500 Main Ave., and is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Dec. 23, but is closed Sundays.

Eligible individuals can sign up for treatment by visiting https://www.comassvax.org/appointment/en/clinic/search, and selecting “screening” as a search filter.
