Midge Kirk will launch her book “They Persisted” at the Mancos Public Library on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.

According to a news release, the book is a brief look at the lives of 21 women who were born in the 1800s and are relatively obscure in history.

Each profiled woman comes from a different race, class, culture and occupation, but all fought injustice.

These courageous, innovative, bold and unstoppable women paved the way and fortified us for the challenges we all still face, according to the news release.

“Kirk brings their bravery and audacity to life honoring their rebelliousness and the strength they displayed in the face of efforts to keep them in their place,” said Kathryn Quina, Ph.D., Gender and Women’s Studies and Psychology, University of Rhode Island.

Twenty percent of all book sales at the launch will be donated to the library.

Free refreshments will be served.
