Maria’s Bookshop is again sponsoring the annual “Families Helping Families Holiday Book Drive” benefiting children who are served by the Family Center of Durango.

Community members visiting Maria’s Bookshop, 960 Main Ave., are invited to select an “angel” ornament off the book drive “tree” in the shop. Each angel features information about a local child served by the Family Support Program. Booksellers are happy to provide guidance and ideas to help individuals find the perfect book to donate, and Maria’s Bookshop will offer a 15 percent discount on the book drive purchase. Books collected by Dec. 17 will be presented to children at the “December Delights” holiday event at the Family Center.

The Family Support Program is designed to give families an opportunity to work closely with an advocate to set goals and secure resources. Advocates help to create a plan for families to achieve their identified goals. The program also provides financial assistance and information about family enrichment activities.
