Mancos water line replacements under way

Aging lines along Sunset Avenue, First Street being upgraded
Journal file

The town of Mancos is currently in the midst of a water main and service line replacement project.

The town of Mancos is currently replacing water main and service lines along Sunset Drive.

The project aims to upgrade aging infrastructure, and is expected to wrap up around Nov. 18. Once finished, the town plans to replace the lines along First Street too, said Burt Ramsay with Ramco Developments, which was contracted for the project.

The main line has been replaced, and has been tested, chlorinated, and disinfected, according to the town website. They are currently working to transfer services from the old main to the new one, Ramsay said.

The contractors are working to install two service lines per day, and are alerting each property owner when their service line is being replaced.

After their service line has been completed, residents are encouraged to run their sinks for about five minutes in order to flush their lines.

“If residents notice cloudy water, this is caused by air in the lines due to the shutdowns required to install the new infrastructure,” the website states. “There are no public health or safety issues, and the water is safe to drink.”
