The Mancos school district declared May 21 as “Stephanie Slough Appreciation Day” to honor a longtime teacher and Mancos graduate as she prepares to retire.
Slough graduated from Mancos High School in 1985 and worked as a teacher in the district. She will retire this school year.
“From her days as a student to her remarkable career as an educator, Stephanie has been a true source of pride for Mancos,” Superintendent Todd Cordrey said. “We are deeply grateful for her years of dedicated service, unwavering care and her lasting impact on generations of Mancos Bluejays.”
In honor of Slough, the district released a proclamation of appreciation.
“Whereas, Mancos schools are the key to a thriving community, creating, strengthening and maintaining the bridge between the school and community.
Whereas, Mancos students have a right to a high-quality education,
Whereas, Mancos staff works diligently to create and manage school and home partnerships.
Whereas, Mancos teachers are on the front line in our battle against ignorance, insecurity and unrealized due outcomes.
Whereas, there is no more noble and honorable profession than being a schoolteacher.
Whereas, a career as a Mancos schoolteacher is the highest level of service one can provide in our community.
Now, therefore, the Mancos Board of Education does hereby proclaim Wednesday, May 21, 2025, as ‘Stephanie Slough Appreciation Day.’”
