The Mancos Public Library has a host of earthy events coming up this month.

They range from musical performances to herbal talks to a harvest festival – all focused on celebrating the land.

Mancos has joined in on the Four Corners One Book Initiative, happening at six libraries in the area. As part of this initiative, local author Chuck Greaves will visit all six sites for a talk and reading of his book “Church of the Graveyard Saints,” which is set in Southwest Colorado.

For its own program, the Mancos Public Library will host a three-part series, with installments celebrating the preciousness of lands and resources in different ways.

The first installment is Oct. 3, when Travis Custer from the Montezuma Land Conservancy comes to the library to talk about land and resource conservation.

Next, the San Juan String Band will play from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Absolute Bakery & Cafe with a performance also celebrating the value of protecting our land. Beverages and some dessert offerings will be available for purchase.

Finally, author Chuck Greaves will come to the library Nov. 7 for his author talk and book reading.

Kate Husted, owner of Durango-based nonprofit the Herb Hut, will be at the Mancos Public Library at Oct. 10 to talk about herbs.

The mission of Husted and the Herb Hut is to increase access to and education in alternative medicine practices for underserved communities.

The library will host a Harvest Festival on Oct. 19, featuring stories about the growing season, a potluck, music by Jamie and the Dreamers, and returns to the Seed Lending Library, a program MPL offers which allows locals to borrow heritage or organic seeds for planting.

The event is free and open to the public from 3-6 p.m.
