Mancos High School cheerleaders shine at national camp

Individuals and the team left the camp with multiple awards

The Mancos High School cheerleading team earned awards and honors at the National Cheerleaders Association Camp over the weekend, showcasing their talent and teamwork.

Several cheerleaders received individual accolades, while the team collectively secured multiple awards for their outstanding performance. The squad was recognized both individually and as a team for its standout performance.

Seven cheerleaders were nominated for All-American Cheerleader, recognizing their skills in various categories: Maddie Daves (motions), Kylie Zufelt (base stunt), Rhett Brown (dance), Brooke Jabour (motions), Filip Karatzas (leadership), Parley Smith (tumbling), Elly Coey (tumbling) and Tegan Mestas (coed stunting).

Four athletes – Coey, Jabour, Smith and Brown – earned All-American medals for tryout, with Jabour achieving the highest overall score.

The team received the “Stay Safe Award” for ensuring their flyer didn’t fall during stunts. The squad also earned the “Herkie Team Award” for exemplifying leadership, sportsmanship and teamwork. Additionally, they secured three Superior “Blue Ribbon” awards in cheer, chant and overall camp teamwork, along with a Technical Excellence Award for execution from erformance Technical Excellence Award for execution during performance.

The team capped their success off the camp with the “NCA Stick Award” for scoring above 90% on the camp evaluation.
