Mancos Citizen of the Year nominations are being accepted

Winner will be announced early 2019

The Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations now through November for its annual Citizen of the Year award.

The award is given to a noteworthy Mancos resident every year who “has made (Mancos Valley) a better place to live and has been a positive role model in the community,” according to the nomination form.

Last year’s award went to Andrew Saletta, a Mancos Schools music teacher. Several neighbors nominated him for the award, and he was celebrated at an award ceremony in the Mancos Valley Visitor Center after his win was announced.

Prior awards have gone to longtime locals with deep involvements in community groups around Mancos. The award in 2017 went to Linda Simmons, who had served on the Mancos Valley Historical Society for two years and as secretary of the Mancos Creative District and the local chapter of PEO International, a women’s philanthropic organization.

The deadline for nominations is Dec. 1, and forms must be mailed to the Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Once nominations are received, a committee will review the submissions and announce a winner early 2019.

Historically, the current Citizen of the Year has formed the committee that chooses the successor.
