The Mancos Burro Fest received approval on June 19 from the State Economic Development Commission to be an Enterprise Zone Contribution Project, which Region 9 Economic Development said will bolster support for the annual event.

Like the Mancos Opera House project, donors contributing $250 or more can now claim a 25% state tax credit, with an additional 12.5% credit for in-kind donations, alongside federal deductions for the nonprofit.

This event, which is organized by the Mancos Creative District, celebrates the town’s unique burro culture with a burro obstacle course, artist demonstrations featuring the animals, a maker’s market, youth activities, music, food and more.

Each year, the festival is held in downtown Mancos and draws visitors and locals, supporting local businesses and creating a space for community connection.

“Burro Fest is made possible each year through the sponsorships and donations provided by our community,” Chelsea Lunders, executive director of the Mancos Creative District, said. “We are thrilled to be able to offer our contributors this tax credit going forward and keep the event growing for years to come.”
