Town board plans listening sessions
The town will hold the first two in a series of mobile meetings this week.
These meetings are drop-in events, and there is no set agenda. But the board invites you to voice your ideas for the town budget, infrastructure needs and any other comments you may have.
On July 30, two town board members will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mt. Lookout Grange. On July 31, two board members will be available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the P&D Grocery.
Dolores hosting free football camp
A free football camp will take place at Dolores High School, Aug. 5-7. Registration will take place at the Dolores High School football field at 8:30 a.m.
The camp is for players entering grades 6-8.

Buchsbaum graduates from RIT
Mancos native Joshua Buchsbaum graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering technology from the College of Applied Science and Technology.
School to Farm not part of school budget
The Montezuma School to Farm Project requested that the district cover 10 percent of the school gardens expenses this year. But the request has been placed on a wish list that could receive funding in October if the district receives extra funds, said Superintendent Brian Hanson. A board member of the Mancos Conservation District Bob Becker came to the meeting to question the board about the request which was made several months ago.
School board president Monty Guiles said the school was unable to fund a competitive salary for a school nurse and that the board had not discussed the issue.
Mancos schools near Aug. 4-5 registration
Parents and guardians can register students on Monday, Aug. 4, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. or Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
One-stop pre-kindergarten to grade 12 registration will be set up in the high school. Each school secretary will be able to update information for returning students, streamline the registration process, and answer any questions. Janet Fogel, food service director, will also be present to assist in filling out free/reduced applications and to reconcile any outstanding balances. The school nurse will also be in attendance to make sure your child's immunizations are compliant with state requirements.
There is an online version of registration available only to secondary returning students. You can either download and fill out the paperwork and bring it in on one of the above days or complete the paperwork online and e-mail it back to the school secretary no later than Aug. 15. You will not need to be present for registration if you complete the registration online.
Supply lists for students are available on-line or at the Cortez and Durango Wal-mart stores.
All new students must provide a birth certificate and immunization records. Secondary students will also need to provide copies of school transcripts.
Next commodity distribution is Aug. 9
The next distribution is Saturday, Aug. 9. You must bring a box large enough for your commodities.
The state has a new policy about picking up goods for someone else, and there is a form that must be signed each month.
You must have a 2014 commodity card (cards are good for a calendar year), and only one card per household is allowed. Bring a copy of your proof of income for 2014, to be left at the office; proof of physical address; Social Security number for head of household; and a copy of driver's license or state ID card.

Obtaining cards: Cards may be obtained at Masonic Lodge Senior Center, 141 E Montezuma, Wednesdays only, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.
