Manaugh to hold Cinco de Mayo fun run to help fund playground

Proceeds will go toward a new playground

Manaugh Elementary School will host a Cinco de Mayo fun run on May 5 at 10 a.m. to raise money for a new playground.

According to assistant principal Whitney Stewart, the school wants to update the playground for the neighborhood as well as for the school.

“We are really excited about bringing in some new equipment, not just to create a play space for kids, but also a more appropriate running and walking path out there,” she said.

She said the playground is beyond repair.

“These structures are so old now that we can’t just add onto it; we have to pull it out of the ground. And it is getting worse and worse every year,” she said.

The school also will feature carnival games and food after the race at the school.

Tickets are $5 each and $15 for groups of three or more. They are available at Manaugh or at the event.

The school also is seeking volunteers as the run approaches. To volunteer, email Stewart at wstewart@cortez.k12.co.us or call the school at 970-565-7691 and leave contact information.
