Man killed crossing highway

Accident happened<br/>north of Towaoc

A Shiprock man was killed Monday night after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross U.S. Highway 160 near County Road B, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Wilson Slim, 31, reportedly got out of a parked vehicle on the northbound shoulder and had crossed the highway. While crossing back to the vehicle, he was struck by a northbound 2011 GMC Yukon SUV driven by Katherine Johnson, of Prescott, Ariz., according to CSP Sergeant Mike Baker. No charges have been filed.

Slim was pronounced dead at the scene. The highway was closed for two hours.

Cortez Fire Chief Jeff Vandevoorde was one of the first responders. He reported that rescue personnel attempted to revive Slim with CPR but were unsuccessful. The accident was called in at 8:56 p.m. and occurred during low visibility at dusk.
