A man faces a 15th DWI charge after being arrested in Farmington.

Bennie Maurice Ramone, 47, of Gamerco, near Gallup, was arrested by Farmington Police Department about 4:45 p.m. March 19 in the area of Mesa Verde and Animas Street.

Multiple witnesses called dispatchers, stating they saw a beige Chevrolet SUV driving erratically on the Bisti Highway. They reported “the vehicle drove into oncoming traffic and into the shoulder” before making its way into town, according to the statement of probable cause.

One witness followed the vehicle and flagged down police when it stopped near the intersection of Mesa Verde and Animas Street, where police reportedly saw Ramone “hastily get into the driver seat and put his seat belt on,” according to the statement of probable cause.

Police pulled a cruiser in front the SUV blocking Ramone, and officers ordered him out of the vehicle. The officers reportedly smelling “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his exhaled breath,” court records state.

Ramone’s eyes reportedly appeared “to be bloodshot and watery,” and his “speech was also slurred,” according to the statement of probable cause.

Ramone allegedly refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test, so Farmington Police had to secure a warrant to get a blood test.

Upon further investigation, police reportedly found an open 24-ounce container of Modelo Chelada in the front cup holder, as well as a 100-milliliter container of Yukon Jack next to it. This bottle also was open.

Ramone was booked into the San Juan County Detention Center on a charge of aggravated DWI, driving while license revoked, open container, display of registration and financial responsibility
