M-CHS golf team qualifies three for state tournament

Panthers finish fourth at 3A regional in Alamosa

With the pressure of state qualification on the line, the Montezuma-Cortez girls golf team put together a gritty round Tuesday at Cattails Golf Club in Alamosa to earn three individual qualifiers for the 3A championships.

M-CHS battled well against some of the area’s best golfers during the 18-hole event. At the end of the day, the Panthers posted a team score of 318, good for fourth place.

Junior Ashlyn Hall, sophomore Chesnie Patrick and senior Sariah Robinson qualified for next week's 36-hole state championships.

Hall led the way for the Panthers, scoring a 46 on the back nine of Cattails, en route to a 98 – good for eighth place. Hall scored three pars, including on both of the back nine par 3s to finish as the top Panther individual.

Patrick followed closely in 14th place with a score of 104, which included three pars.

Robinson enjoyed her stronger side on the front nine, shooting a 53 thanks to steady play, and scored a 116 overall. A tie for 21st earned her one of the final qualifying spots into the 3A tournament field.

Junior Anna Lawrence rounded out the Panthers scoring with a 140.

Colorado Academy won the 3A Region 4 team title with a score of 277, edging out Vail Mountain School’s 282 and Aspen’s 297.

The Panthers will advance to play at The Broadlands Golf Course in Broomfield for the 3A championships Tuesday and Wednesday, May 31 and June 1.
