Look to law to cure Pinocchio politicians

American politicians from “both sides” of the aisle have a problem telling the truth, and not a small one either. This has an easy fix.

All Americans have to do is pass ballot measures that make it a crime for politicians to lie. When a politician takes the oath of office add the words, “Do you swear to tell the truth at all times, and never use the words ‘I do not recall’?”

Then, if a politician lies, the penalties need to be draconian in nature.

For the first infraction, five years (no parole or suspension) and a $1 million dollar fine. For the second offense, 25 years (no parole) and $10 million dollars, and lethal injection for the third offense.

In no time at all, the old gasbags in Congress (that we all wonder how they keep their jobs) would be pushing up daisies, and we could start over with a totally new Congress that would be honest to a fault. And all we have to do is make it a very serious crime for any elected official to say (or imply) something untrue to a constituent.

Want to make America great again? Get the Pinocchio syndrome out of government and the parties (yes, both of them) by sending public liars who hold office to jail.

Lying to the police is a crime, so is lying under oath, and has legal precedence. All we the people have to do is demand expanding existing law.
