Hunters who have a deer or elk license for the fourth rifle season in Game Management Unit 711 still have the opportunity to obtain a special permit to hunt deer and elk at Lone Mesa State Park.

Hunting at the 12,000-acre park during the fourth season is limited to 25 hunters; 12 permits are still available. Cost for the entry permit for Colorado residents is $100 for antlerless elk, and $200 for those hunting either-sex elk or buck deer. The cost for non-residents is $200 and $300, respectively.

Lone Mesa is located in Dolores County in western Colorado and entry to the park is limited to provide a high-quality big-game hunting experience. The fourth season runs from Nov. 12-16.

Those who have a fourth season license for GMU 711 and who wish to hunt at Lone Mesa this year should go to the park web page, http://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/LoneMesa/Pages/Hunting.aspx, to read the rules for hunting in the area and download a permit application. All hunters must attend an orientation at the Lone Mesa office in Dolores the night before the season starts.
