Local teen dies in auto crash

Twin brother hospitalized

Two people were killed, and two others were seriously injured in a head-on collision along U.S. 160 in Costilla County.

A Colorado State Patrol spokesperson said the collision occurred near mile marker 261 about 8:45 a.m. on Friday, June 12. Officials said passengers in separate vehicles, a 16-year-old boy from Mancos and a 64-year-old woman from Manzanola, both died on the scene.

CSP officials said a 2005 Subaru, driven by another 16-year-old from Mancos, was traveling westbound when it crossed the centerline and struck a 2003 GMC pickup, driven by a 68-year-old man from Manzanola, which is east of Pueblo. Both drivers were seriously injured, authorities said.

Weather conditions at the time of the accident weren't noted in a CSP report. Officials said no alcohol or drugs were suspected. No seat belt information was provided.

Earlier this week, The Cortez Journal learned that the 16-year-old killed in the accident was Tyler Allee-Jumbo. His twin brother, Casey Allee-Jumbo, was reported stable but remained in intensive care as of Monday.

A small family burial for Tyler Allee-Jumbo was planned for Thursday morning, followed by a memorial at the Dolores Community Center starting at 12:30 p.m.

The boys attended Fountain Valley School in Colorado Springs, according to their Facebook pages.

An online GoFundMe page was launched to help cover funeral costs and medical expenses. As of press deadlines Wednesday morning, 50 donations totaling more than $5,000 had been raised toward a $25,000 goal.
