The children’s section at the Cortez Public Library was officially unveiled Thursday evening at a dedication ceremony.
Cortez City Manager Shane Hale said the recent makeover at the public library was essential in order to make the facility more inviting to children. The facelift to the children’s section includes a mural, kid’s scale play furniture, a new archway and a maze of book bins.
“When a child walks into the library, we want them to immediately know where they can go,” said Hale. “We’ve accomplished that goal.”
Before the makeover, Hale said the library had a uniform, sterile interior. Feedback from parents and children are welcome for continued visitor improvements, he said.
Last year, the library recorded more than 160,000 visitors, compared to the city recreation center, which had fewer than 130,000 users, according to Hale.
“The public library is the city’s undisputed, single busiest property,” Hale said.
