City chooses Kyle Sloan as airport Director Jeremy Patton’s successor

After Cortez Municipal Airport Director Jeremy Patton makes his exit at the end of this month, Marine Corps veteran, pilot and air traffic control specialist Kyle Sloan will be filling his shoes.

Sixty‑two candidates applied for the role and last week the city hosted a meet and greet with the two finalists. City Manager Drew Sanders, after considering community input, made the final hiring decision.

“It was really well attended, and boy, some great questions,” Sanders said. “The candidates did really well. Just a lot of engagement.”

Sloan, whose first day is March 30, hails from Dugway, Utah. He manages air traffic for Jacobs DPG and previously served as an airline pilot and first officer for SkyWest Airlines in Salt Lake City.

Sloan, who graduated from Utah State University and Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia, studied aviation technology and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

“The city of Cortez looks forward to welcoming Kyle Sloan and is confident that his aviation experience, leadership background and operational expertise will support the continued success and growth of the Cortez Municipal Airport,” city spokeswoman Kelly Codner said in a news release.
