The initial delay and cancellation was attributed to a building-wide plumbing issue
Kemper Elementary School, through the Montezuma-Cortez RE-1 school district, announced around 8 a.m. that school would be canceled for the day. Initially, a delay was declared at 7:25 a.m. via email, and the district asked that parents not bring their students to school until further notice.
In an update at 7:43 a.m., the school requested that parents whose children ride the bus come and pick up their children from the school.
A mile run scheduled for fourth and fifth graders at Panther Stadium will continue as planned.
The cancellation was attributed to a building-wide plumbing issue that needs to be resolved before school can commence. The district said it would continue to provide updates.
