Karen Sheek elected president of state League of Women Voters

The Journal

Former Cortez Mayor Karen Sheek has been elected president of the Colorado State League of Women Voters.

Sheek, a longtime resident of Cortez, is a retired teacher/media specialist who taught at the Cortez Middle School for over 30 years.

For almost 20 years, she and her business partner operated Seas’nings Catering, providing off-site catering services. Chosen to fill a vacated City Council seat in 2011, Sheek served on the Cortez council for 8½ years, six of them as mayor.

Sheek has been a member of the League of Women Voters of Montezuma County for over five years, and served on leadership team for three years. The election took place during a Zoom webinar of the League of Women Voters of Colorado Council 2020 Saturday. The meeting, originally scheduled for Grand Junction, was held online because of the coronavirus pandemic.
