James: Thoughts on war for profit

Tom James

Maybe it’s just me, but it’s been more than 15 years since Sept. 11, 2001. Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden are dead. Reckon enough is enough?

Ike warned us against the “military-industrial complex.” What a gallant-sounding title for something that means “war for profit.”

I’m tired of hearing about soldiers being killed or maimed or having their brains so scrambled from the horrors of war that they never have another peaceful night’s sleep.

For profit. History will bear out, from at least Vietnam forward, that the leaders of this country, regardless of “party,” have seemingly been incapable of telling the truth.

How about if the politicians want to go to war in the Middle East, they spend some of their lobbyist “perks,” buy a plane ticket over there and punch someone in the nose themselves?

For profit. Bring the soldiers home and tell Washington to go to hell. It’s your country. They are the employees after all.

Maybe if we can find a better way to boost the economy I’ll lighten up a little.

Well, make sure you wear clean drawers ...
