James Edward Cattles Jr.

James (Jim) Edward Cattles Jr., 68, passed away at his home in Albuquerque, N.M., on May 17, 2013.

Jim was born to James and Kathryn Cattles in Ogden, Utah, on Jan. 25, 1945. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1963, and served in the Navy from 1965-1972.

After leaving the Navy, Jim and wife Barbara, and son Matthew relocated to Dolores, where he opened his own electronics repair shop.

Jim and wife Patricia, sons John and AJ moved to Cortez, where they owned and operated Cattles Appliance for many years. A longtime resident and former mayor of Dolores, Jim is best remembered for his involvement in the construction of the Joe Rowell Park Pavilion.

Jim moved to Albuquerque in 1999 and was on the ground floor of designing the new Sandia Casino.

He retired in 2010, when he worked for an independent contractor at Kirkland Air Force base.

Jim is survived by his sons; Matt Ehlers, of Santa Rosa, Calif.,, John Cattles and Rachel, A.J. Cattles and Jamie of Gunnison, Colo.; his brother Bill Cattles and Bev of Dolores. He leaves seven grandchildren, Anna, Abby, Emily, Logan, Katy, Jaxon, and Tucker Cattles of Gunnison, and two nieces, Renae Eshelman and Terry of Durango and Beth Brueggeman and Eric of Montrose. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Kathryn Cattles.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
