A lifelong resident of the area, Judy Marquez recently announced her candidacy for Montezuma County clerk and recorder.
"I am seeking the office as an independent candidate," Marquez said. "I have extensive experience in a wide range of areas."
Marquez said she started her career at First National Bank. For more than three decades, she worked at the bank in bookkeeping, auditing, compliance, payroll and assistant cashier. Most recently, Marquez has worked for Fraley and Co. in customer service.
"My experience would bring new ideas to the office," Marquez said. "I would strive to create an office that is friendly, courteous and professional by utilizing my years of experience with the public."
"It would be my honor and privilege to serve as your next county clerk and recorder," she said.
Marquez graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School. A Lewis resident, she and her husband of 36 years have two children and five grandchildren, with another on the way.
Kim Percell, a Republican candidate, is also campaigning for Montezuma County clerk and recorder.
Current clerk and recorder Carol Tullis is relinquishing the post because of term limits. The clerk and recorder oversees motor vehicle registrations, elections, marriage licenses, birth and death records and land deeds, among other records.
