In defense of Osprey’s new headquarters

In response to Bonnie Abbzug (Journal, Jan. 20), I couldn’t disagree more. Calling Osprey a company that has “clearly sold out” is laughable. From what I hear and read, Osprey is a world leader in pack sales, a world leader.

Last check they were adding a lot of new employees. Doesn’t sound like a company on the skids to me. We should be tickled pink that an international company has made a decision to stay in Cortez.

Her statement that they have the nerve to construct a new building is beyond laughable. Commercial growth is something we should be celebrating. It means we are growing and progressing as a community.

As for “hiring from outside of our town” and “no store here,” I suggest Bonnie do some better research. Every job posting for Osprey is clearly listed on their web site and from what I understand, they welcome local applicants.

And last time I looked, Osprey doesn’t have retail stores anywhere. If you attend any of their locals sales you will find hoards of shoppers who really are OK with those “seconds and damaged” products.

I, for one, am beyond glad that Osprey is building their world headquarters in Cortez. Thanks Osprey...you are welcome in my town.
