I’m voting ‘no’ on mill levy override

To put the proposed mill levy override into context, a 10 mil increase in property taxes will negate any increase my wife and I will receive in our Social Security.

At the present time, approximately 45% of our property taxes go to fund the Mancos schools. I believe in a quality education, but we are both way past having any child in school and this new mill levy will be another tax increase for which we will receive no direct benefit.

On top of this, property taxes across all of Colorado will be increasing because of the expiration of the one-time reduction of $55,000 on the taxable property value. You can count us as a “no” vote right now.
