The San Juan National Forest’s Dolores Ranger District reopened the House Creek Campground July 1 after extensive renovations. Improvements to the facility, originally built in the early 1990s, updated infrastructure to address power blackouts and leaking water lines.

Campground renovations include water and power upgrades, new site access routes, improvements to shade structures and the expansion of sites near the edge of the reservoir. There are 22 campsites at House Creek. Twelve sites now include 50-amp, 30-amp and 20-amp power hook-ups. Five sites are RV/tent non-electric campsites and five are tent/picnic sites/day use sites. Water service is now available near all sites.

Renovations focused on popular sites and underutilized sites within the campground have been decommissioned. Group campsites will remain closed until the completion of new construction. First come first serve camping is available. Recreation.gov reservations are not available currently but will be when the new campground information is populated on the site.

Visitors should be prepared for new traffic patterns, including a new access route near the House Creek boat ramp and temporary signage. The House Creek boat ramp remains open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday through Monday.
