I would like to applaud the new federal rules limit on gas flaring and venting. Several times recently I have experienced shortness of breath and these episodes have occurred at the same time that there have been news reports of a methane gas bubble over the Four Corners. I do not think there has been enough attention to the possible health risks of this methane.

I hope that if there are to be hearings on these rules, that there will be one in Cortez and that the Journal will report when and where such a hearing will be. Not only is venting and flaring a waste of a valuable resource, it is a potential health risk for local residents.
