Historical society will give update on flume

The Montezuma County Historical Society presents a free talk by Linda Towle titled “Saving the McElmo Creek Flume: An Update,” at 7 p.m. May 12 at Hampton Hall at the Methodist Church on N. Park Street.

Towle will discuss the recent repairs to the foundation of the flume, and the construction of a new interpretive stop on the Trail of the Ancients Scenic Byway to interpret the flume and the water history of the Montezuma Valley.

On Tuesday, May 10, the Cortez Historic Preservation Board presents a free program by Jill Seyfarth titled “Remember Woolworth’s?” at 7 p.m. at the Cortez Cultural Center at 25 N. Market Street.

Seyfarth will discuss her latest research on historic structures in the original townsite on the north side of Main Street, including the impact that the 1950s oil and gas boom had on these local businesses.
