The Panthers got off to a rough start on Friday against the Alamosa Maroons; fumbling on their first two drives of the game and giving Alamosa possessions in the red zone.

While their defense forced a turnover-on-downs following the first turnover, Alamosa capitalized with a touchdown on M-CHS’ second turnover to take a 6-0 lead.

The Panthers offense moved the ball in spurts, but turnovers in the red zone and a missed field goal in the second quarter foiled their chances to get on the board.

Alamosa scored again in the third quarter on a 29-yard touchdown rush to extend their lead, and neither team would score again, with Alamosa winning, 12-0.

Coby Baer led the Panthers offensively with 80 rushing yards, with Elisha Vaquera chipping in 47 yards on the ground. Cordell Ridings rushed for 42 yards and passed for 43.

Tanner Desrosiers led the defense with 17 total tackles, and finishes the season tied with a Class 2A leading 119 tackles. Zach McDonald recorded 12 tackles and Vaquera and Baer each had 11. Austin Bayless had four tackles and two interceptions.

Dolores

The Dolores Bears finished out the season with a 34-0 win over Ignacio.

The victory was highlighted by the return of Branden Donaldson, who had been out since week one with a broken collarbone, and quarterback Jalen Balderrama’s passing milestone.

In his comeback, Donaldson carried the ball 11 times for 91 yards, hauled in three receptions for 27 yards and recorded five total tackles.

While Balderrama rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns, he also passed for two touchdowns, connecting on 16-of-25 attempts for 195 yards. Balderrama’s 195 yards pushed him over 1,000 yards passing on the season, finishing with 1,021 and leading the Southern Peaks conference.

Talon Zwicker led the Bears’ defense with 12 total tackles and Forrest Pejsa racked up 10. Kyle Biery pressured the quarterback and recorded two sacks, while Tristen Medina pulled down two interceptions and came up with a fumble recovery in the shutout win.
