Evacuations for homes within a half-mile of a hazardous materials spill were lifted around 1:30, but remained in place for all businesses at Oak Street and North First Street in Bloomfield.

A motor vehicle crash led to the spilling of 300 gallons of herbicide in the roadway leading to a response from Farmington Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials team, according to San Juan County Spokesman Devin Neeley.

San Juan County Fire and Rescue, Bloomfield Fire Department, New Mexico State Police and Bloomfield Police Department also responded.

“Envirotech is doing the physical clean up,” Neeley said. “They are still cleaning up and will be for the next few hours.”

North First Street will remain closed between Broadway and Blanco Boulevard until the entire spill is cleaned up, Neeley said.
