“Jon has a proven history of building consensus and finding innovative solutions to manage public lands in Colorado, and we’re thrilled to have him join our team,” said acting district manager Elizabeth Dawson, in a Nov. 9 news release.

Trained as a professional hydrogeologist, Kaminsky has earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from Western Colorado University and master of science in hydrogeology from Idaho State University.

He has broad experience in project management, National Environmental Policy Act analysis, and preparation of resource management plans.

“I am honored to be the new field manager in a region that has played such an important part in my life,” Kaminsky said. “I look forward to continuing to connect with the local communities, government officials, Tribes, and stakeholders.”

His career has taken him all over the Western United States. He has been an educator, and an employee with the U.S. Geologic Survey and the BLM. He and his wife, Shannon Kaminsky, raised two children.

The Kaminsky family enjoys skiing, ice hockey, hiking 14ers and cycling. Son Ian recently graduated from college, and daughter Kaylee recently graduated from Gunnison High School.
