The Galloping Goose Historical Society wants to express our deep appreciation to Weeminuche Construction Authority of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe for transported Galloping Goose 5 in 2017. WCA transported No. 5 to the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in Durango and the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad at Chama, N.M., on three separate occasions. This required six days that WCA providing the truck, the fuel, and the driver for transporting No. 5, at no charge to GGHS.

WCA’s donation greatly benefits GGHS in all of our activities, including operating No. 5 at events in Dolores like Escalante Days, the Fall Harvest Fest, and Christmas in Dolores. Also, No. 5 was operating for the Third Grade Classes at Dolores Elementary School and for two local preschool classes in 2017. The operating insurance GGHS is required to have combines the excursions and our local events in one policy. The revenues generated by excursions essentially pay for the insurance for our Dolores activities. Furthermore, WCS’s donation enables GGHS to offer excursion tickets on the host railroads at affordable prices.

Were it not for the generosity of WCA providing transportation, opportunities for the public to ride this historic railcar would be greatly reduced. GGHS especially wants to thank Sheldon House, General Manager at WCA, Jed Tallent, WCA’s Equipment Manager, and Andy Begay, WCA’s skilled and professional driver, for their roles in providing this generous service.
