Funds not OK’d for building demolition

In Friday’s paper, (Journal, Oct. 14), the Re-1 school board ran a half-page ad to destroy our $1.874 million bond fund by using it to demolish the old high school. We, as taxpayers, voted and paid for a bond fund to build a new high school and sports facility, not to tear down and destroy old buildings. Using our taxpayer bond fund money is a bad idea and not what we voted for.

Has the school board asked for bids to remove the hardwood flooring in the two gyms? No. Have they asked for bids for anyone to remove plumbing and duct work? No. Have they asked if anyone would be interested in recycling the glass? No.

Once the throw-away mentality kicked in all other thought processes stopped. To spend millions to destroy an old building to plant grass is a bureaucratic mentality. The ridiculous Environmental Protection Agency rules for asbestos abatement drive the cost beyond comprehension.

Let the high school building stand until grants and donations can be secured. Now, we as taxpayers, have to pay for advertising so Re-1 can drive it’s own misguided agenda.

Vote for Trump and absolutely vote “no” on 3-A.
