The Zu Gallery will present live musical performances by Little Brother and FA3 QU33N on Saturday to raise funds for two sober living homes that opened this year in Cortez.

The event, which includes a poetry slam and drinks and appetizers, runs 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 48 W. Main St. Visitors are encouraged to share addiction-themed poems.

Tickets are $25 at silverliningrecoveryhomes.org and $30 at the door. They include one drink token. All proceeds benefit residents at Silver Lining Recovery Homes.

“The goal is to raise awareness and lessen any stigma around sober living residences,” said Charlee Sharp, who co-founded the homes with Adam Herman. “We are also hoping to raise funds for fun activities for the residents such as camping trips, bowling and group meals.”

Some residents also are eligible for the Piñon Project’s program to curb the cost of the rent, which is $900 a month.

“Addiction recovery and sober living homes are an integral part of making our community stronger and healthier,” Sharp said. “Most people have experienced substance use issues or have loved ones who have and it’s important they know that there is treatment and a better life waiting for them.”

At the end of February, Cortez’s first sober living facility opened. It is for men only and has seven residents. Sharp and Herman opened a female-only facility on June 1, and three women signed up to live there.

Both Sharp and Herman are in long-term recovery themselves and passionate about their cause.

“I know there is a better life on the other side,” she said. “I want to share my compassion and drive with anyone who is willing and wants to find a better way to live.”

Donations are accepted at silverliningrecoveryhomes.org and at Saturday’s event. People also may email silverliningrecoveryhomes@gmail.com or call (970) 676-4255.

“We appreciate all of the support that we have already received from the community,” said Sharp, namely the Piñon Project, LOR Foundation, friends, family and the greater community.
