Friends of Recreation raffle raises $3,452 for Rec Center scholarships

The annual raffle held by Friends of Recreation for a Healthy Community has recently concluded. The winners were announced after a drawing at the Cortez Recreation Center. First place went to Lexi Muhonen, second place went to Pete Montaño, and third place to Jeri Price. The winners were drawn by two children in the “Adventure Club Kids” program at the Rec Center.

A thousand tickets were printed for the raffle, and tickets were sold at the Rec Center and all over town by members of the organization. The profit from the raffle came to $3,452, and an additional $271.33 was received as donations without the purchase of raffle tickets. These funds will be used to provide scholarships to use the facilities of the Cortez Recreation Center and fees for programs sponsored by the Rec Center such as peewee basketball and summer tennis classes. Scholarship application forms are available at the front desk of the Rec Center. The organization awarded 244 scholarships in 2018.

The officers of Friends of Recreation for a Healthy Community want to thank the community for their support of the raffle fundraiser. We also want to express our appreciation to Marty McKean, our raffle chairman, who did an amazing job.

Sincerely,

Eleanor Kuhl, secretary
