Four local students graduate from Adams State University

Four local students graduate from Adams State University

Four local students graduated from Adams State University in Alamosa during the Spring 2016 Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 14, in Plachy Hall. Adams State awarded 362 degrees at its spring commencement ceremony, including 271 bachelor’s degrees and 91 associate’s degrees. Seventy-eight of those graduates completed their degrees through Extended Studies distance education programs.

Carol Campbell, of Mancos, received a master’s degree in counseling – clinical mental health.

Jennifer Fast Wolf, of Dolores, graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology/social welfare. Casey Russell, also of Dolores, graduated cum laude, with a bachelor’s of science degree in interdisciplinary studies. Kelsey Corbin, of Mancos, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology/cell and molecular studies.

Adams State 1975 and 1976 alumnus Placido Gomez, visiting professor of law at the University of La Verne College of Law, gave the undergraduate commencement address, “Take Your Seat at the Table.” Gomez urged the graduates to use their education and experience to actively seek solutions to the many issues society needs to address. He previously served as vice president for Academic Affairs and Provost at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Arnold Salazar, chair of the Adams State Board of Trustees, conveyed the greetings from the board, and Elizabeth Streeter delivered the 2016 class message. Dr. Shellie Beeman, assistant professor of music, lead the singing of the Alma Mater. A reception followed the ceremony for graduates and their guests in the Plachy Hall Field House.
