University of Colorado professor Charles Wilkinson will give a lecture about Bears Ears National Monument at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Student Union Ballroom at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive.

Wilkinson has written 14 books about the law, history and society of the American West, and he was a special adviser to the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition in 2016 during the creation of the national monument.

Wilkinson’s lecture, titled “The Greatness of Bears Ears National Monument: Five Tribes Define a Spiritual Cultural Area in Redrock Utah and Make It Law,” is free and open to all.
