Fort Lewis College to celebrate Native American month

The Native American Center at Fort Lewis College will host events this month in honor of Native American Heritage month:

Nov. 14: Screening of the film “Smoke Signals,” 7 p.m., Vallecito Room.

Nov. 26: Keynote address from Lee Francis, 6 p.m. Vallecito Room. Francis is head of IndigeNerd and CEO of Native Realities, the only Native and Indigenous pop-culture company in the United States. Francis aims to change the perceptions of Native and Indigenous people through dynamic and imaginative pop culture representations. His work, ranging from poetry to short stories, has appeared in multiple publications. His first comic book, “Sixkiller,” will be released this spring. He is a member of Laguna Pueblo.

Nov. 27: Indigenous webcomic workshop led by Francis, 1:30 p.m., Vallecito Room. Participants in this workshop will learn how to develop and distribute their own webcomics based on personal identity and cultural explorations.
