Flash Flood Watch issued

Due to a forecast of heavy rains, the National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of southwest Colorado and southeast Utah through Saturday evening.

Areas prone to flooding in Colorado include the Animas River Basin, the Upper Dolores River, the San Juan River Basin, and the San Juan Mountains.

In Utah the Flash Flood Watch area encompasses all of southeast Utah, Canyonlands National Park, Natural Bridges National Monument, the La Sal Mountains, and the Abajo Mountains.

Beginning today, Friday, precipitation will increase over the Four Corners region through Saturday. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop with locally heavy rainfall possible.

The NWS warns that rivers, small streams and creeks already swollen by snow melt runoff could quickly flow out of banks with additional heavy rainfall. Be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
